Class Descriptions

Restorative – All yoga postures have a restorative quality. In this class the emphasis is on a relaxing inward focus instead of the more physically demanding approach. This class is appropriate for all levels.

Level 1 – The whole scope of the principles of Iyengar yoga is taught through the regular practice of standing poses, shoulder stand and other basic postures. It is recommended that the student study at this level for 1 year. This class is ideal for the beginner or those new to Iyengar yoga.

Level 1 & 2- This class is is appropriate for beginners but will also have intermediate students attending. The instructor will teach what is appropriate depending on the level of the students in the class.

Level 2 - An in-depth study of the standing poses is explored and shoulder stand and its variations are practiced regularly. Seated forward bends, backbends, and headstand are introduced. This class is not for beginners.

Flow - This class flows through a sequence of classic and creatively adapted sun salutations followed by seated asanas (poses) and relaxation exercises. The emphasis is on creating a fluid succession of poses that build strength and flexibility while consciously linking breath to movement. While alignment is emphasized, there is less reliance on use of props than you will find in a traditional Iyengar-based yoga class. All levels are welcome.

Hot Yoga - If you are looking for a challenging well rounded practice, Hot Yoga is for you. Expect to generate heat, power and stamina, develop strength and poise, and awaken the spine. Through this vigorous sequence you will energize, calm and rejuvenate the entire body. Bring a towel and drink plenty of water before class. Expect to sweat, and leave feeling amazing!

Yoga & Meditation - This class will prepare the body for mediation with grounding and centering yoga poses, ending with 20 minutes of heart centered meditation.

Meditation - Meditation is the tongue of the soul and the language of our spirit. It is a safe and simple way to balance our physical, emotional and mental states and can benefit everybody. Feeling stressed, over-worked, anxious, have difficulty sleeping and quieting your mind or perhaps you have high blood pressure, breathing problems or want to improve your overall wellness? Then this class is for you! Each week we will quiet our inner dialogue and unlock the stillness that rests within our soul by practicing different meditation techniques for improved function, clarity, wellness and happiness.

Mommy & Me -  An opportunity to bond with your baby and meet other new moms. Also techniques to lessen stress and release tension in the upper back will be taught. Moms should be 2 months postpartum.

Mommy & Toddler - Spend quality time with your little one while doing something good for both of you and meet with other moms and similar-aged children. Classes include yoga for both moms and children. Moms will practice yoga on their own and assist their little ones with poses by demonstrating them and positioning their bodies in the proper alignment. Classes have a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Expect singing, animal noises and giggling. Activities are ideal for children who have conquered walking to 5 years of age and their moms.  Mom and child should wear comfortable clothing that enables movement.

 

Kids -- Children learn through play and in this class they will learn yoga poses by pretending to be animals and parts of nature.   This class will teach them to breath deeply, relax, and be healthy.  Children should be at least 7 years old.
